General News: Artist Awards Program

June 14, 2017

From Arts Mid-Hudson

The Under-Recognized Artist Awards Program is Now Accepting Applications

The Under-Recognized Artist Awards Program was created specifically to help struggling artists survive the process of establishing themselves in the art market and allow them to focus on their art. The Pollock-Krasner Foundation generously provided seed funding to establish this program, which will provide five winning artists each with a $3000 cash award which can be used for art materials, equipment expenses, or other career development expenses.

The deadline to apply is June 30, 2017 - applications are accepted online at: http://artsmidhudson.org/under-recognized-artists-awards-program/

The funding will provide five artists with market visibility, public exhibits, and a financial award to allow them the runway needed to create new work. An "Online Art Gallery" will also be created featuring up to 100 selected applicant artists, thereby increasing interest in regional artists.

To directly support individual artists residing and working in the Hudson Valley, who have shown that they are highly talented, producing ground-breaking art, gaining visibility, serious about their art, and are dedicated to long-term career development.
To establish an ongoing program to assist under-recognized and emerging artists to gain visibility by providing awards that allow them to continue creating work and relieving their financial burden.
To showcase new work by artists, through gallery exhibitions and an online gallery.
To support the artists for an extended period, providing continued connections to show their work, find opportunities and funding; this pilot program will track results for three years.
This award program supports visual artists working in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, mixed media, installation, and sculpture. The most successful applicants will fit the following criteria:
Has a body of high-quality visual artwork sufficient for a one-person show
25 years or older
Some experience exhibiting their work, with at least 3 gallery showings
Must reside in or have a studio in the following Counties: Columbia, Dutchess, Greene, Orange, Putnam, or Ulster.
Five artists will each receive awards of $3,000 during an awards ceremony
An online gallery will feature the five selected fellows and up to 100 additional applicant artists' work on the site to assist in ongoing promotion of the program.
