Food for Fines Benefits the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley
CORNWALL, NY – On Sunday, April 9 Cornwall Public Library will kick off the popular “Food for Fines” program and will run through Tuesday, April 18. All donations will be given to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley, a local organization that supports area food pantries who distribute food to anyone in need.
During this period, the Library will accept non-perishable food items in exchange for overdue fines. For each item donated, up to $1.00 in fines will be cleared. All food items must be non-perishable, in their original packaging, and new – well within their “use before” date. Credit for items applies only to overdue fines – no replacement costs for lost or damaged items will be waived. Any non-perishable food item will be accepted, however, the more popular items to consider donating are coffee, soup and Carnation Instant Breakfast. Patrons who don’t have overdue fees, but wish to donate non-perishable food are welcome to do so.
The library is pleased to continue this program that benefits the community, by giving patrons an opportunity to take care of their fines, while helping those in need in the community.
