June 03, 2019

From the Office of Senator James Skoufis 5/22/19

Senator Skoufis Inducts Pete Kurpeawski Into New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame

Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) honored Pete Kurpeawski from Cornwall as he was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. The New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame was created to honor and recognize outstanding veterans from the Empire State who have distinguished themselves both in military and civilian life.

“Pete is a dedicated and esteemed veteran as well as an exemplary and philanthropic member of the Cornwall community,” said Senator James Skoufis. “From spending 30 years in the United States Army, including two tours in Iraq, to creating the Cornwall Medal of Honor Memorial and coordinating Cornwall’s ceremonial events, Pete has shown dedication to both our country at-large and our community. It was my great honor to induct Pete into the Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame and I am beyond grateful for his service.”

Master Sergeant Peter Kurpeawski is a resident of Cornwall, NY. He spent 30 years in the United States Army and retired as a Master Sergeant with the 10th Mountain Division in 2010.
Pete has received many military awards including: two Bronze Stars, a Meritorious Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal 2nd Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal 3rd Award and Air Assault Wings.

Pete has been a member of the American Legion Post #353 in Cornwall since 2004 and Commander since 2011. He helped create the Cornwall Medal of Honor Memorial in 2015 and has been involved in the renovation of the Civil War Cannon at Veterans Triangle. He is responsible for all ceremonial events including Memorial Day, Veterans Day, Flag Day and Medal of Honor Day.
