General News: Notes from the Village Board Meeting

Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson Board of Trustees Business Meeting 05/20/19

Public Hearing:
Parking on Mountain road is has become an issue which is a hazard to many people. A member from the community is glad to have this issue addressed. The Palisades Interstate Park Commission owns those trails, so none of the trailheads or paths will be removed. There are different abilities and direction signs that are being considered to help guide the public. The public hearing was closed and no parking or standing will be allowed on Mountain road.

Monthly Department Reports:
The village clerk, Jeanne Mahoney, made it a goal to obtain WIFI for the village hall. Two possible bids were obtained and this system will soon be put in, which gives four WIFI access points throughout the building.

The Police Department had been able to make improvements using multiple grants that they have received. The village received a grant from the NRA which helps with training and equipment fees. The village also received a grant that allows for bulletproof vests to be purchased.

The boat docks at the river front were placed back in the water recently.

Resolutions:
The Black Rock liner project had two bidders. There was a tie for the bids for the first time ever that the trustees could recall. The project was awarded after the board had multiple discussions over the benefit of each bidder.

Other Business:
A new system called Park Mobile is being implemented to have community members pay for parking using the app or website if they do not have a pass. There are signs that have been installed on May 13th that include instructions on how to use this system.

The West Point Regatta was on April 27th and 28th. It was unfortunately raining that day but the event went well.

There was a bulk pickup was on April 29th.

The RiverKeeper Sweep occurred on May 4th that cleaned up garbage along the river. There were 89 volunteers that came out to help and the board thanks all of those volunteers. Also on this day there was tree planting near the gazebo.

At RiverFest coming up on June 2nd, the Cornwall Landing historical marker will be unveiled.

The summer recreational program will run from July 8th through the 16th. Registration for the program is on June 8th and 19th. The deadline to submit applications to be a counselor closes on May 22nd.

FYI:
The Memorial Day parade will be held on May 27th and it starts at 10am.
The commencement of the Storm King School will be held on June 1st. NYMA’s commencement will be held on June 8th. Mayor Coyne hopes to attend both of these commencements.
