Gump3b.......do you have children?  I think you are so off the mark it is a shame.  I think it is a sad and inappropriate  to assume that parents are doing this for their own gratification.

When the day comes when I am so against and bothered by some honking and that I can't support kids accomplishments, please send me to the home.  I am truely BAFFLED by the negative comments.  Last night I actually timed the honking which is one block from my home and I heard it for approximately 1  minute.

Give me a break.

It is loud obnoxious and inconsiderate.  If they want to celebrate let them do it at the little league complex; if the town wants to share in the celebration let the people who care take the time to go ... we all know where it is and when the games are.  Also, using your car horn forn anything other than a warning of automotive danger is ALWAYS illegal ... it is NEVER legal.  Just because it is allowed doesnt make it right.   It ISNT the 7 minutes people make it out to be, when it is team after team it is a nuisance.

Please dont use the happiness of the children as an excuse either, they wouldnt miss it if the adults didnt introduce it.  Those joy rides are for the parents, not the kids.

Riding around in a tailgate is neverr, ever safe, and there are accomodations that are needed to make it legal.  Most if not all of the vehicles are ill equipped.

Adults are using children as an excuse to behave badly and inconsiderately

I don't see how the honkers can't pullover for an ambulance just like any other car?

And it is a stretch, since  honking has been going on for 30+ years and no accident or lawsuit has occurred, but for arguments sake, IF an accident did occur and someone made a third party claim, the insurance company can't make up their own rules.  If the activity is legal, it is legal.  The insurance co can argue comparative negligence and maybe reduce their percentage of the  damages.  And yes, the statistics  I quote do cover all MVA's.  But I would put money on that most occurred while in a traditional automobile, with doors and all and NOT while on a 3 mile parade at apporximately 7 miles per hour.

Further, it is not that those who advocate the honking can't stand anyone disagreeing with us.  My own best friend doesn't like it and finds it annoying.  But she would never take the time to call and complain about it, since it only passes her house for about 10 minutes.  She too expressed that it was "bad" for about 2 weeks and it has subsequently subsided.  She wouldn't make a fuss over 2 weeks of her life.  And she would never dream of shouting at the children.

And for the poster who said honk and celebrate once.  That is pretty much what happens. They do it once for each post season victory.  They just win alot.

Its great to hear the kids celebrating their achievements and sharing it with our town, but..... once is enough, more than once could result in an accident where a child could become injured or worse, and if ever an ambulance is trying to get to someone in need or to the hospital, those precious moments could be a matter of life or death.  I think a more balanced view on this celebration needs to be considered.

"Community Father" you may want to go back and read your original post.  You spent nearly half concerning the noise, duration and the policing of honking.

Let the kids celebrate.  A lot of kids are doing much worse (just drive down Main Street at 11:00PM).  Let their parents decide whether they should go honking in the back of a pick up.
