when we first moved to the village we walked on bayview (on the sidewalk) and found the walk dangerous as the traffic on a 30mph road was traveling much over the limit it was not a peaceful walk and we never returned. If we installed sidewalks on village roads traffic speed would increase.
I'm not starting an argument as there was not an intention of sarcasm in my golf cart reasoning as I would favor something on that order.

what????????  I am not starting a fight here, but when I was a kid there was no side walk on Bayview Avenue, they installed it when I was about 7, and now many people enjoy walking on that road, when it was previously not frequented at all.  A sidewalk is a very logical alternative.

the only alternative is to eliminate automobiles and allow only golf carts, for 3 of the 4 seasons. And for the ones who come for our restaurants have them park at village hall and walk as its always pleasant after a nice meal.

My point was, these people drive at 35 in a 55, not out of respect for the mountain, but because they are afraid of it, and when the road straightens out the drivers dont feel fear themselves, so they have no consideration of the kids and animals in the local area.  In a way I am agreeing with you, I DO feel that we need to respect the local residents and their safety through observing the speed limits.

As an aside though, I was driving down shore road this past weekend and there were two small children playing at the stop sign at the base of the hill previously mentioned in this thread.  SMALL children playing in the road, on the corner, in the road, without adult supervision.  If the local residents want to protect their children they should keep in mind that just because Cornwall is a small, generally safe town does not abdicate them of personal responsibility.

I reiterate, if you want to ameliorate the safety issue perhaps you should contact the village about the possibility of a sidewalk.  I was not discounting your safety issue, just questioning your method.  I take it that perhaps the idea of a personal speed trap was a joke, but the suggestion about taking down license plates and embarrassing drivers that are likely not from this area and wouldnt ever be exposed to the ridicule anyway is just pointless.  The police in the Village dont necessarily catch ever infraction, but I have found that if you go and bring up an issue it generally gets attention, even if there is no immediate resolution reached.

The drivers you speak of running under the 55 mph speed on the mountain indicates that they are respecting the mountain. Now if they only respect the road rules in COH.
