National Voter Registration Day
CORNWALL, NY – National Voter Registration Day (NVRD) is Tuesday, September 26. NVRD is the largest one-day effort to register voters in the US. The Cornwall Public Library has registration materials available for those who need to register to vote, would like to change their party enrollment, or have a change of address. Your registration application must be postmarked no later than October 13 and received by the Board of Elections no later than October 18 to be eligible to vote in the General Election. Applications for change in party enrollment must be received by the Board of Elections no later than October 13. Change of address forms for registered voters must be received by October 18.
National Voter Registration Day -- celebrated on the fourth Tuesday of every September -- was founded in 2012 in response to over six million Americans reporting that they didn’t vote as a result of missing the registration deadline or not knowing how to register. This single day of coordinated grassroots, digital and media efforts is aimed at creating a pervasive awareness of voter registration opportunities – reaching hundreds of thousands of new voters who would not register otherwise.
