Obituaries: John A. Kenny

January 16, 2023

John Kenny

April 26, 1961 ~ January 14, 2023

John A. Kenny passed away on January 14, 2023 at his home on Cornwall, NY. Born in Poughkeepsie, NY on April 26, 1961, John is survived by his daughter, Katharine Rose and her mother Cathleen Kenny Casilli. He is also survived by his brother, Michael Kenny and his wife Ann Marie; his sister, Marcia Keegan and her husband Richard; his nephew Michael Kenny Jr. and his family; as well as his nieces, Kelsey Fritz and Meghan Keegan. Both his mother and father, Marilyn and Leo Kenny predeceased him, as did Kathleen Kenny's Son, Jeffrey Marone.
John spent the first 15 years of his life in Poughkeepsie and then moved to Campbell Hall, NY, following his father's marriage to Kathleen Kenny, who always treated him like her son. After high school, John graduated from the University of Miami and developed a lifelong love for the Miami Hurricanes (and an unreasonable hatred of the Fighting Irish). John worked for over 30 years at IBM, first in Poughkeepsie, and later at Sterling Forest. During his life, John loved fishing, watching sports, listening to rock music, reading mysteries, drinking a nice cold beer, and hanging out with his friends at The Shamrock. But most of all, he loved spending time with his daughter.
At John's request, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. There will, however, be a celebration of his life gathering in the near future.
Contributions in his memory can be made to the Crystal Run Village Foundation, 201 Ward St., Montgomery, NY 12549 (www.crvfdn.org). The John Kenny Memorial Scholarship Fund will provide training and scholarships to staff who support adults with autism and other developmental disabilities and are working to obtain a college degree.
