 WILLIAMS LUDWELL HARRISON, JR.

Cornwall, NY

Williams Ludwell Harrison, Jr., fondly known as “Luddy” of Cornwall, NY entered into eternal rest on October 14, 2017 at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh, NY. He was 86 years old.

The son of the late Williams L. Harrison, Sr. and Estelle Bruce (Lester) Harrison, Luddy was born on October 18, 1930 in Richmond, VA.

Luddy was a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point, Class of 1952, where he honorably and proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Army, including tours in Korea, Japan, Thailand, and Vietnam before retiring in 1975 as a Colonel. He served as the Deputy Director of the National Military Command Center Joint Chiefs of Staff.

After retiring from the Army, Luddy settled in Illinois for a time before coming back to Cornwall where he became the CFO and VP of Finance and Service for the Association of Graduates at West Point from 1987 - 2001. He remained involved with West Point through membership in the West Point Society of Mid- Hudson, as President and Treasurer of AUSA and especially enjoyed being a West Point Club Ranger.

Luddy was also very active in the community as a member of the Cornwall Lions Club where he was one of only 4 people in 85 years to receive the Melvin Jones Fellow Award. He was the Treasurer of Boscobel Home & Gardens, past President and Vice President of the CNWM Horse Thieves Society, and enjoyed his Tuesday Bridge Club. He was also an active member of the Cornwall Presbyterian Church.

Luddy was a friend to all, charming with his West Virginian accent, and his open and welcoming smile. He never passed up an opportunity spend time with friends and family, loved to talk sports and politics, share stories from his childhood and Army days, and enjoyed his 4:00 Old Fashioned. He will be missed greatly.

Luddy is survived by his loving wife, Carol Dulaney at home; his son: Williams L. Harrison, III and his wife Louise; his daughter: Dawn Emrath and her husband Perry; his stepson: Daniel A. Dulaney and his wife Diane; and his stepdaughter: Deborah M. Dulaney and her husband Ben Winstanley, Daughter-in-law: Zahira, his grandchildren: Ramsey, Yasmine, Abigail, Erin, Kelsey, Meghan and Michael; and his beloved dog “Toby”. Luddy was predeceased by his first wife Colleen.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, October 30th at the Cornwall Presbyterian Church, 222 Hudson Street, Cornwall-On-Hudson, NY; Rev. Patricia Calahan will officiate. Interment with Military Honors will follow the Service at West Point Cemetery, West Point, NY.
